The University of Burdwan is autonomous state university established by the West Bengal government on 15 June 1960. The university has been awarded five-star status by the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). Admissions to Postgraduate courses are done on the basis of marks acquired by a candidate in their Bachelor’s Degree Examination (relevant stream) or equivalent. Whereas for admission to LLM courses, the candidate must appear for the required entrance exam organized by the University.

The University of Burdwan offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. research courses. Candidates applying for these courses must hold Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate from a recognized Institute/University. Those applying for Ph.D. must appear for Entrance Exam organized by the University.
